Farkle is a game for everyone who wants to measure their luck, nerves and a little healthy cheek. It's great for long nights out with friends, when you want to prove that sometimes risk does bring sweet rewards - and other times just a hefty slap from Lady Luck. At the start of your turn, you take six dice, close your eyes and roll them on the table. From the dice you roll, you choose the dice that will bring you points. You set those aside as loot ready to be written down. Now you have two choices: settle for what you've looted and take the points straight off, or say "one more roll" and risk losing everything. If you manage to put down all the dice completely, you get to start over with a full set of six - this is called "hot dice". This is when Fortuna herself smiles upon you. However, it only takes one futile roll without a single point and your entire turn ends with a zero.
Scoring is simple:
- Each one = 100 points.
- Every five = 50 points.
Three of a kind:
- Three ones = 1,000 points
- Three twos = 200 points
- Three threes = 300 points
- Three 4s = 400 points
- Three fives = 500 points
- Three sixes = 600 points
And if you manage to roll more of the same dice, each additional piece doubles the value of the original triple. So four threes will give 600 points, five threes will give 1,200 points, and six threes will give a full 2,400 points.
Special combinations:
- Straight 1-6 = 1,500 points
- Straight 1-5 = 500 points
- Straight 2-6 = 750 points
You decide the objective of the game in advance - usually 2,000 to 5,000 points. Whoever reaches the agreed limit first wins. And the others can wish him either glory or a rematch. A word of advice: Farkle is a game where a cool head is valued. Those who keep piling up and never settle will usually get nothing but a blank record and a bit of shame. But those who take risks with common sense stand a good chance of walking away from the table with a winning smile - and a pocketful of points.
Good luck - and have fun!
