Sekiro: Shadows Die Twice is the latest test of resolve by FromSoftware, the developers of the rage-inducing Dark Souls. Sekiro was published by FromSoftware in Japan and Activision in other regions.

To celebrate the launch of Sekiro, Xbox approached us to create a dozen custom consoles; some that could be shown across the world at Activision PR events, and others that could be won in competitions by gamers eager for the punishment Sekiro would mete out to them.

Like the samurai of old, we meditated long and hard to produce initial sketches and designs, working alongside Activision to further develop our ideas. To bring our custom consoles to life Activision provided us with 3D files for Wolf’s Mortal Blade which, after we finished the manufacturing process, sat proudly atop our custom consoles on a wood-effect Sekiro-branded sword stand. That wood effect flowed through our life-like katana replica down to the bottom of the console; our custom Xbox One was made to look like an ancient wooden box that would have fit perfectly in Sekiro’s fantasy Sengoku period. That wood effect also carried over to the controller, which had a stylish ‘SEKIRO’ written on the front in native Japanese script.
