Back in November 2018, Microsoft acquired celebrated RPG developers Obsidian Entertainment, best known for producing Fallout: New Vegas, Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic 2 – The Sith Lords, South Park: The Stick of Truth and others.

Toward the end of 2019, Obsidian’s game-of-the-year contender The Outer Worlds was released, published by Private Division. The team at Xbox wanted to congratulate both parties with something unique and special.

The Outer Worlds was critically lauded for its creative visual style as much as it was for its gameplay. What better way to celebrate the studios’ success, then, than with custom Xbox One X consoles adorned with the unmistakable artwork that helped make the game so popular? We created two custom consoles for Xbox EMEA and Private Division, complete with controllers. Both were adorned with the brilliant concept art of Obsidian’s Hannah Kennedy; a colourful scene of an adventurer exploring a brand-new landscape with a sprawling cityscape on the horizon.
