Shortly before the COVID-19 pandemic hit, SDS opened its studio a mere stone's throw from our San Ramon taproom. While the game was being designed over the past three years, key members of the development team would make the short walk across the road to enjoy some fresh beer and discuss the day's progress on their then unannounced new game. Little did they realize the outing would become a ritual that would spawn a collaboration resulting in Outer Way. Stop by any of our taprooms and devour this stout...before it devours you...

Outer Way Midnight Stout: 9.0%

In the vastness of the Stout universe, the ability for someone to spot one that is balanced, well executed, and free of bakery-fueled whimsy has become increasingly harder year after year. However, Outer Way is just what we've been searching for, by floating somewhere between a classic American Stout and the Imperial Stouts of yore. Taking advantage of the best British malts we can get our hands on, this Stout shows off a restrained roast character that partners perfectly with its intense maltiness, and rains down flavors like space debris of toffee, caramelized plums, roasted coffee beans, Dundee cake, almond brittle, twice baked biscuits, and dark cocoa. As temperatures dip and heating costs rise, Outer Way does us all a kind favor with its mildly warming alcohol notes while still remaining shockingly drinkable for a beer of its magnitude. No longer do you have to travel to the moons of Jupiter to find a Stout that tastes like a Stout, and for that, we are grateful.
