Far Cry 6 sees players fight for the freedom of fictional Caribbean island Yara during a guerrilla uprising in 1967. Far Cry 6 was developed by Ubisoft Toronto and published by Ubisoft.

Microsoft partnered with Ubisoft for a Far Cry 6 competition, challenging us to design a stellar competition prize that pushed customisation to the extreme and reflected the game’s new setting. Our Far Cry 6-themed Xbox Series X and S consoles and controllers were the result.

Our team wanted to capture the creative weapon customisation elements the resource-stretched Yara guerrillas have to resort to when fighting for their freedom in Far Cry 6. Yara’s rebel forces have to use whatever’s around them to take on President Castillo’s forces – our console and controller designs reflect that, incorporating various elements to make them look like dangerous in-game weapons.

Our custom Xbox Series X made great use of its tower shape, converting the console into a rusty blue ‘dirty bomb’. Intricate wiring snakes out of the incredibly-detailed derelict-looking electrical unit, which is connected to four pipe bombs alongside a filthy jerrycan to make the blast go that little bit further. Both the console and rust-effect controller feature the Far Cry 6 logo and Yara flag paintwork.

The smaller custom Xbox Series S features similar paintwork, made to look like a rusty voltage cabinet complemented by signature blue colouring. The competition and consoles featured prominently in leading video game publications including GamesRadar, GameSpot, Game Informer and many others.
